Hello World! Tried Chocolate Wine Lately?

So. It’s been a while since I last posted last for various reasons.  Mostly because I’ve gone through round after round of illnesses, nothing noteworthy or hospital worthy (yay!) but enough to make me miss more work, more running, more bicycling and more paddle boarding than I even want to think about. It’s so sad really.

I feel like I’m writing a confessional but it’s been like 3 months since I ran at all and 4 months since I went paddleboarding.  And I was doing so well, going every weekend forever!  Oh well, I think it’s getting time to get back in the swing of things.  How many times have I said that or something similar?

Anyways, that has nothing o do with what I was going to write about today.  I used to have a blog called Wannabe Winos (you know that’s a great name) and though I only wrote in it for about a year I really liked it because I used it as a journal to keep track of different wines I tried and whether they were great and should go on the keeper list or not so much.

Since Kinda Zennish is nothing if not about whatever and I’ve already professed my love of wine (and other fine spirits) I decided that I would combine the two so that I can keep track of my wine preferences again.  If you are a casual drinker of wine then you know that it can be difficult to remember which bottles were the ones you wanted to try again.  Or maybe that’s just an effect of finishing that wine quick enough that it doesn’t go vinegary on you.

Whatever. Anyways…

chocovine

This is the wine I was looking at when I decided to start the blog wine journal. Chocolate wine! How could it not be good?

I poured a glass (screw top bottle, gotta love easy) and sat out in the perfect Florida weather to enjoy.

It was pretty good – in small doses. It’s incredibly sweet and has a consistency more like a liqueur than wine. You can taste the red wine in the background, and very sweet chocolate in the front. I don’t think it would be good with any food except maybe not too sweet cookies like biscotti. Unfortunately I can’t stand biscotti so straight wine it is.

I think this wine would be best for special occasions when you want to pick up something different for friends to try. Anyone have a suggestion of what would be served with chocolate wine for family and friends?

Looking for adventure and great photos!

Hiked to the Maze Rock Art Site in Vermilion Cliff Hiked to the Maze Rock Art Site in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. It's a short & easy hike to see these petroglyphs, about a 1.5 total out and back. It's a really fun (remote) hike with very few people.

I cannot reccomend exploring National Monuments enough. They are just as awesome as our national parks, but usually have fewer crowds. Usually (not always!) they also have fewer amenities and more dirt roads, but they are awesome.

This isn't really a hike - it's right off the road This isn't really a hike - it's right off the road. But how cool is this tunnel?? It's also pitch black and uneven footing in the middle. Shockingly I didn't trip, but a light wouldn't have hurt.

I've been in Utah for only a few days but I already know I won't be running out of new places to hike this month!
Horse Shoe Bend has been on my list of places I'd Horse Shoe Bend has been on my list of places I'd like to see in person for a while. I realized I was passing it on my way to the grocery store in Page, AZ and had to stop. Ten dollars and a mile and a half round trip walk on a well graded path. So they said, but I'm not sure if it was even a mile total.
And dog friendly!! I'm still super excited I got to see it in person.

I was driving pretty much in the middle of nowhere I was driving pretty much in the middle of nowhere looking for a trail and saw a sign for Chaco pointing down a rutted dirt road. It was about 23 SLOW miles driving and then a 4 mile hike here. An amazing site! You walk past 3 smaller pueblos and lots of pictographs on the way.

The ranger said you could spend 2 or 3 days exploring the park and I could totally see that. There's a few other long hikes. I think I took 5 hours walking 8 miles. There is so much history to see! And another win - very few people.
One of the 3 kings! One of the 3 kings!
I had planned to go to Bisti Wilderness after Taos I had planned to go to Bisti Wilderness after Taos several months ago but had to cancel after my little hiking accident. But I finally made it! I'm really excited to explore the area. Day 1 was a five mile walk through amazing formations. Lots of petrified wood - I wasn't expecting that!

Hiked up Golden Canyon first thing this morning. Hiked up Golden Canyon first thing this morning. This is why a month in each place isn't too long. After work random hikes close to home and go straight to one of the busy hikes weekend mornings. You pass the crowds coming in as you're leaving. And in this case, beat the heat.

Death Valley keeps showing new shockingly beautiful places. I'm already planning to come back.
