Get Ready to be a Spartan!

You know I love obstacle and mud runs. But am I ready for the Reebok Spartan Race?  Mmm, probably not.  But it’s been added to my to-do in 2014 list!

Not sure what a Spartan Race is all about? It’s about finding out just how far you can push yourself – and about smiling as you cross the finish line. Well, that’s my goal anyway.

How about you, are you ready?

If you’re in or around Tampa, Florida here’s a great way to test yourself if you aren’t sure or to help prepare yourself if you plan on running it. Doing anything this Saturday morning? How about doing a Reebok Spartan Workout with the #1 MMA Welterweight Contender Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks?  It’s free to the first 300 people to register!  You can register here.

Johny Hendricks for Spartan

I’m tempted to go just so that if they do it again I can see how much I can improve between now and then!

If you ARE in Tampa, here’s another cool thing.  February 15th we’re going to have “the most unique Spartan event” –  the Special Ops Spartan Sprint Medal which includes a special finishers medal unique to this race!

Looking for adventure and great photos!

So, a funny thing happened on the way to a hike. D So, a funny thing happened on the way to a hike. Driving through Custer State Park I turned down a dirt road to see what I'd see. It was actually to a trailhead so I took a few minutes to get anti-tick ready and started hiking. Just a minute or 2 in I saw some big animals ahead and stopped to see if I was finally seeing elk-nope. It was the huge herd of buffalo. At a quick jog. How fast was I back at the car with Nova safely in the back seat? Your head would spin.

I stood by the car with my hand on the handle and watched them run by in awe. Stomping, grunting, you could almost feel the wild. Coolest animal en counter I've seen. There were a few stragglers I watched go by. No, I did not go back on the trail. If I'd been 5 minutes further up the trail I honestly don't know what I'd have done. I figured I'd used my luck for the day and just drove the rest of the Wilderness loop and went home. 🤣

Drove up Needles Highway and back on Iron Mountain Drove up Needles Highway and back on Iron Mountain Road. They are some of the coolest drives I've done! Views in every direction, trails along the way, and crazy tunnels and bridges. Not for the impatient; a must do for everyone else!

These pictures are from my first outing in South Dakota, and yeah, I'd say it's pretty cool. For the record, the bison was walking up the left side of the road, so I pulled off on the right side a bit up the road to see if he would walk by. He crossed to my side and walked within a couple feet of the car! I did not try to pet the fluffy cow.

I got some amazing pictures but they don't do the reality justice. Definitely go if you get the opportunity!

I am not sure if I was in or just near Escalante to be honest. Either way, it's amazing how many completely different looking areas there are around here.

Hiked to the Maze Rock Art Site in Vermilion Cliff Hiked to the Maze Rock Art Site in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. It's a short & easy hike to see these petroglyphs, about a 1.5 total out and back. It's a really fun (remote) hike with very few people.

I cannot reccomend exploring National Monuments enough. They are just as awesome as our national parks, but usually have fewer crowds. Usually (not always!) they also have fewer amenities and more dirt roads, but they are awesome.

I've been in Utah for less than a week and can alr I've been in Utah for less than a week and can already tell one month isn't enough time. This area has more trails within a few miles than anywhere else I've stayed so far. And they've all been spectacular so far!!

This isn't really a hike - it's right off the road This isn't really a hike - it's right off the road. But how cool is this tunnel?? It's also pitch black and uneven footing in the middle. Shockingly I didn't trip, but a light wouldn't have hurt.

I've been in Utah for only a few days but I already know I won't be running out of new places to hike this month!
Horse Shoe Bend has been on my list of places I'd Horse Shoe Bend has been on my list of places I'd like to see in person for a while. I realized I was passing it on my way to the grocery store in Page, AZ and had to stop. Ten dollars and a mile and a half round trip walk on a well graded path. So they said, but I'm not sure if it was even a mile total.
And dog friendly!! I'm still super excited I got to see it in person.

I was driving pretty much in the middle of nowhere I was driving pretty much in the middle of nowhere looking for a trail and saw a sign for Chaco pointing down a rutted dirt road. It was about 23 SLOW miles driving and then a 4 mile hike here. An amazing site! You walk past 3 smaller pueblos and lots of pictographs on the way.

The ranger said you could spend 2 or 3 days exploring the park and I could totally see that. There's a few other long hikes. I think I took 5 hours walking 8 miles. There is so much history to see! And another win - very few people.
One of the 3 kings! One of the 3 kings!
I had planned to go to Bisti Wilderness after Taos I had planned to go to Bisti Wilderness after Taos several months ago but had to cancel after my little hiking accident. But I finally made it! I'm really excited to explore the area. Day 1 was a five mile walk through amazing formations. Lots of petrified wood - I wasn't expecting that!
